During negotiations to include the Big Horn Medicine Wheel to the registry for National Historic Landmark and Sacred Site status, the Crow stated that the Wheel was already present when they came into the area. Although the Wheel was built high above the Bighorn Basin, and the climb up from the basin takes effort, a wide and deep cut ancient trail takes the traveler directly to the Wheel. In winter, when the modern asphalt road is covered in snow and closed for the season, one can still make their way by foot up the old trail from Five Springs Campground. Simms of the Chicago Field Museum, upon examining the Wheel in , surmised that the travois trail road must have been well-traveled for long periods in the past to acquire its deeply cut edges. The Bighorn Mountains are high above the hot summers of the basin. In , the Tukudeka Elder Aggretta said her people chose to live high in the Bighorns to escape the flies and human conflict. This Wheel has similar stellar and solar alignments to the Big Horn Medicine Wheel, adjusted for landscape changes and latitude.

James Church tells the story of how our nation came to be. I am pleased to have joined Elmhurst residents, the church leadership and my colleagues in government to have Old St. James Church landmarked so that future generations can enjoy and learn from this remarkable structure. This is a great day for NYC. As originally constructed, the church was a simple rectangular building clad in shingles, with round-arch windows and a tower at the west end facing a graveyard.

July 7, ChronicleAdmin History , News Comments Off on Medicine Wheel landmark gets new boundary Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar this week announced the designation of 14 new national historic landmarks in 11 states and the District of Columbia that have played an integral role in the development of the country. The event was the apex of decades of violence, mistrust, and fear. Salazar also announced a name and boundary change for Medicine Wheel National Historic Landmark near Lovell, which was designated in He said the parties agreed with the 4, acre boundary on the condition that management remain as is.
Earlier this year, Big Horn County had notified the other consulting parties that they would pull out their support of the boundary and name change if management was changed and the road to the Medicine Wheel closed. The HPP states that management will not change and the road will remain open to the public unless all consulting parties agree to a change.
He said a celebration for the expanded boundary is planned for next month. The program, established in , is administered by the National Park Service on behalf of the Secretary of the Interior. The agency works with preservation officials and other partners interested in nominating a landmark. Completed applications are reviewed by the National Park System Advisory Board, which makes recommendations for designation to the Secretary of the Interior. Kim Jones has revealed how she fought a year legal battle to expose the bloated water bill scandal Image: Up to four million could be in line for huge refunds after it emerged that at least one local authority added water and sewerage charges to rent in an illegal way. The council was paid commission by a water company to act as its agent — but failed to pass this on to 40, tenants to offset their bills. Now tenants in nearly two dozen other areas want to know if their own town halls and housing associations have been pulling the same trick.
A team of lawyers is currently sifting through more than 30, claims from customers stretching across 22 districts including Birmingham, Liverpool and Yorkshire. Ben Hawkins, of the group action WaterClaimsUK, said local authorities and housing associations were trying to ignore or play down the issue. It could be massive. Some may even have been evicted from their homes after the overcharging forced them into arrears.
Solicitors are now preparing a US-style class action against councils amid fears as many as four million Brits could be affected. And up to 1, councils and social housing companies could be forced to repay huge amounts for deceiving tenants.
